Pennies for Peace® is a service-learning program of Central Asia Institute. The program strives to educate students about the world outside their own experiences and demonstrate that they can make a positive impact on a global scale—one penny at a time.
At the core of Pennies for Peace are the penny-raising campaigns. The campaigns raise money to build and fund schools in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Tajikistan—but they also serve another important purpose: A Pennies for Peace campaign teaches young people the importance of taking action for something that is important to them.
It shows them that no matter how big or small you are, you can make a difference for others—often in a profound way—by committing to a cause that matters to you.
This Pennies for Peace Toolkit will support you and your students throughout your campaign. It includes resources such as a timeline, fact sheets about Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Tajikistan, and short videos to help your students better understand why they are collecting pennies, as well as tools to help you reach out to your community for additional support.
We encourage you to take a moment to review the resources and pick those that you feel will be most beneficial for your students.
Thank you for your dedication to Pennies for Peace—remember to be creative with your campaign, and have fun!
